I'm So Confused!

Evidently, I'm a closet Republican. At least based on the number of cars my family owns.

Mr. & Mrs. McCain own thirteen cars, a nice healthy prime number of vehicles. Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Gomonkeygo have multiple vehicles - two, in fact.

But...but...but...Mr. and Mrs. Obama only have one!

Frack. If more cars means one is more inclined to be Republican, then I must be more Republican. I think this is how algebra works. I can't remember because I was too bedazzled by my high school math teacher's tremendous comb-over, white vinyl belt and array of dully-colored polyester suits to learn anything substantial.

All this car talk reminds me, I have to go re-attach the muffler to my '85 Camry. I noticed last night that it's just kinda hanging there about an inch from the ground. That explains most of the noises, I guess. Most of them.

From 2004

Does John Kerry, who supports higher automobile fuel economy standards, own a gas-guzzling SUV? He does, but says it belongs to the family, not to him.

During a conference call Thursday with reporters to discuss his upcoming jobs tour through West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, the Democratic presidential candidate was asked whether he owned a Chevrolet Suburban.

``I don't own an SUV,'' said Kerry, who supports increasing existing fuel economy standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015 in order to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil supplies.

Kerry thought for a second when asked whether his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, had a Suburban at their Ketchum, Idaho, home. Kerry said he owns and drives a Dodge 600 and recently bought a Chrysler 300M. He said his wife owns the Chevrolet SUV.

``The family has it. I don't have it,'' he said.

Kerry said it's important for his family to buy American cars and pledged to keep car manufacturing jobs in the country if elected. He said he is interested in a hybrid car, and has talked to Ford about making it the ``campaign car.''

It was a far different story, however, when Kerry visited car-loving Detroit last February. Back then, he exulted to local reporters about how much horsepower he commands: "We have some SUVs. We have a Jeep. We have a couple of Chrysler minivans. We have a PT Cruiser up in Boston. I have an old Dodge 600 ... We also have a Chevy, a big Suburban."

Hey, Incognito - I wanted to leave a comment on your blog about Palin (it's obvious we have different opinions about her) but there is not commenting available I guess.

So I'll do it here.

It's about experience. I don't think it's at all reasonable to say that being the mayor of a town of less than 6,000 people gives one "executive" experience comparable to that of being, well, almost anything. Especially when that mayor is either so inept at her job or cannot be bothered to perform its duties that she needs to hire a deputy mayor to perform the majority of her daily responsibilities.

I'm good friends with a former mayor of our town of 30,000+ and he didn't need a deputy mayor! And I while I think he's a great guy - intelligent, caring, liberal in his politics, deeply committed to his community and to the ideals of his party in a way very few are - I wouldn't ever think that his MANY years as MAYOR give him the kind of executive experience that a potential President of the United States must have. That's wouldn't be just silly; it'd be potentially dangerous to think that. He knows it too.

As for her gubernatorial experience, the less said the better. If her record cannot stand up to an investigation into what basically amounts to hiring/firing practices and she needs to hide behind the McCain campaign lawyer brigade, then Sarah doesn't have what it takes. Even Alaskans are getting over their initial flush of pride and getting pretty pissed at this.

I'd rather have a: community organizer, constitutional law scholar, state legislator, United States Senator over a mayor/governor any day of the week as President of the United States of America.

Look what the last TWO governors we had as POTUS were like. Yikes!

Wow - I didn't think CARS would upset people so much. Sorry. :)

BTW, 'cuz I know this will just piss so many people off...

Our other car is a Prius.

And I wear Birkenstocks.

But I don't drink lattes. Straight strong real coffee, yes, bring it on! Frothy mugs of milk that vaguely tastes of coffee, no.

I never learnt to drive, but have still done reasonably well. It has not been a barrier for me in life.
Politics is one thing, but you don't have to be an eco-warrior to understand that it is ultimately the car that is destroying our planet not politicians.
